Band Names: DeVo

Devo is an American rock band formed in Akron, Ohio, in 1973. With hits: "Whip It", "Beautiful World", or the cover of Rolling Stones' "(Can't Get) No Satisfaction".

The band blended elements of punk, new wave, and electronic music, with lyrics that often dealt with themes of conformity, consumerism, and dehumanization. The members saw themselves as social commentators, using music and performance to critique and satirize contemporary society.

Jerry Casale says the ideas behind the band started May 4th, 1970, the day, "I saw exit wounds from M1 rifles out of the backs of two people I knew.” He added, “I stopped being a hippie, and I started to develop the idea of devolution. I got real, real pissed off.”
