The Pogues were an English or Anglo-Irish Celtic punk band founded in King's Cross London in 1982, as "Pogue Mahone". This is the anglicisation of the Irish Gaelic "póg mo thóin"
It was in 1984 when they gained awareness from the media after opening for The Clash.
